I first met Jocelyn at a talk on Native Plants sponsored by the Franklin County Conservation District. I LOVED Checkerspot Farm and I found Jocelyn (and her husband Christopher LaRoche) quite knowledgeable. Chris is the technologist which Jocelyn knows gobs of information about natives and pollinators. The meadow walk was fantastic while we learned about various species of natives plants and saw them growing to support wildlife. Checkerspot Farm is a work in progress and they’ve already done so much. There is a store. There are interesting environmental shirts for sale that promote a plant and a specific species that thrives on it. The store has native plants with varying sizes and prices. I believing beginning at $4. There was an end of the season sale where it was buy 2, get one free. The store also had sodas, and local baked goods for sale. Cookies started at $2.50! A GOOD price. Pies were $20. I saw Apple and Blueberry. Call first this time of year, the season is almost over.
Jocelyn and her team at checkerspot farm are an amazing organization! Her knowledge of insects and native plants is such a boon to the community. Her selection of plants is expansive and she has great advice for how best to plant your wildflower gardens! We were lucky enough to take a Sunday walking tour of her gardens - wow! She knew every flower, every bug, every blade of grass in her magnificent wildflower walking tour. Don’t skip it!
Stopped by here on impulse and so glad I did! Jocelyn is super knowledgeable and took the time to help me choose some native plants for my specific needs from her excellent selection. Everything looks so healthy and her store has such charming stuff for plant nerds (the native plant "'band T shirts" are awesome 😎). Jocelyn is a super enthusiastic and just salt of the earth grounded person. Learned a lot about native plants. Will bring my wife back. I came to buy local meat from Dar Ridge Farm just down the road.
