Staten Island, New YorkEst. 1985
The NYC Parks Plant Ecology Center and Nursery (PECAN) is a 13-acre facility dedicated to supporting the restoration and enhancement of New York City's natural areas and green spaces. With a focus on providing high-quality, ecologically appropriate native plants and seeds, PECAN plays a crucial role in promoting biodiversity and strengthening the resilience of the city's landscapes. Drawing from wild sources, their science-based approach and diverse plant offerings feature prominently in projects across all five boroughs, helping to preserve the native flora of New York City. As a hub for seed conservation, native plant distribution, and plant community research, PECAN is a key knowledge base for urban ecology and biodiversity support.
They got plants on plants on plants on plants!
Excellent work preserving our native plants
Not open to the public, but if you get involved with any of the NYC area environmental organizations or NGOs you may be able to get a tour and get plants to enhance open space and natural areas. Nice people there too.
Lots of native plants being grown and prepared.
