Best plant nursery in Michigan. Me and my family’s favorite because of the wide selection of native plants. The employees are very kind.

I did not have the best experience at Wild Type. I did read all of the information on the website beforehand and spoke to a friend as well about the experience/expectations but regardless with all of that in mind everything was impossible to purchase unless you had more than $100 with you in which I was looking for the ability to mix and match flats with what they do allow you to do but even that only did I get 10 plants all of which were very small of course as that again was mentioned on the website if you were to be purchasing on the retail side but it was so expensive for what you got and I got so overwhelmed that I caved and purchased way overpriced plants that then unfortunately died pretty quickly even though they are some of the toughest plants, some in many gardeners eyes would be considered "weeds." I planted them correctly/I am a horticulturist and did all the right steps and only one lived out of the 12 I purchased and it was just such a shame for me because I was really looking forward to coming to a nursery that actually has wild natives and that are actually for our state but its just so hard to afford it 😢

During a recent retail weekend, the nursery was well staffed with knowledgeable employees. From determining plant selection, a fast check out, and someone helping us in the parking lot, there was always someone there willing to help. In addition, the nursery was well organized with helpful signage and plants were in good condition.

I bought trees, shrubs and flats of native flowers here on one of their first sale days by appointment. It was a great experience! The setting is pretty, and there's a lot to choose from. The staff is absolutely encyclopedic in their knowledge and very patient. The nursery owner was also walking around helping people and answering questions. The sale days by appointment seem to be pretty peaceful, though I hear from friends that their open weekends are crowded. My plantings are proving to be healthy and well worth the investment. I'd recommend purchasing your Michigan native species here. FYI, it's a lot of fun to spend time wandering the nursery, but there's no place to get drinking water (not even vending machines), and no real toilets, just porta-potties (thus no way to wash your hands either) so come prepared!

Wonderful experience here and totally worth the drive. They had plants I haven’t been able to find anywhere else and the staff is a wealth of knowledge. The owner, Bill, in particular is incredibly friendly and helpful — I was sad they didn’t have the shrubby St. John’s wort I’d driven there for, and he convinced me to try plugs. I’m excited to see how they grow! Well worth the trip and I can’t wait to see these plants settle into my garden!
