Master Gardener Program

About

The Kansas Master Gardener Program, operated through Kansas State University's Research and Extension office, is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to advancing horticultural knowledge and community gardening education across Kansas. The program operates on a unique exchange model where volunteers complete 40 to 50 hours of comprehensive horticultural instruction—taught by state specialists, local extension agents, and subject matter experts—in return for donating equivalent volunteer service hours to their communities. Master Gardeners engage in educational extension activities that support K-State Research and Extension's mission, making horticultural expertise and gardening resources accessible to Kansas residents. With coordination through local county extension offices, the program connects trained volunteers with meaningful opportunities to share knowledge, promote sustainable gardening practices, and support community green spaces across the state.
