Master Gardener Program

About

The Louisiana Master Gardener Program, offered by the LSU AgCenter, is a volunteer development initiative dedicated to providing research-based horticultural education to Louisiana residents. Since its founding in 1994, the program has trained over 5,500 certified Master Gardeners who deliver proven educational programs throughout the state. In 2024 alone, the program's volunteers contributed 83,391 hours of service—equivalent to nearly 50 full-time employees—generating an economic impact of $2.4 million. The program combines practical gardening knowledge with environmental stewardship, offering resources on home composting, backyard orchards, pollinator protection, and sustainable yard management. Through 29 parish-level programs across Louisiana, Master Gardeners extend the university's educational mission to communities while advancing horticultural best practices and environmental conservation.
