Master Gardener Program

About

The South Dakota Master Gardener Program, operated by SDSU Extension in Brookings, develops passionate gardening enthusiasts into expert volunteers who share research-based horticultural knowledge throughout South Dakota. The program empowers community members to improve their landscapes, grow fresh produce, and enhance their outdoor spaces through education and hands-on assistance. Master Gardeners volunteer thousands of hours annually answering citizen gardening questions, hosting community workshops, and providing expert guidance on topics ranging from vegetable and flower gardening to tree and shrub care. By combining professional expertise with community engagement, the program strengthens South Dakota's gardening culture while promoting sustainable practices and local food production across rural and urban communities.
