Master Gardener Program

About

Virginia Cooperative Extension's Master Gardener Program is a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to advancing horticultural education and environmental stewardship across the Commonwealth. With more than 5,000 active volunteers, the program provides research-based gardening education focused on home landscape management, vegetable gardening, turf management, and community food security. Through initiatives like gleaning projects that distribute excess produce to those in need, seed libraries that encourage home gardening participation, and school garden partnerships that serve underserved communities, the program combines practical horticultural knowledge with meaningful community impact. Extension Master Gardeners work to promote sustainable gardening practices while improving access to gardening education for all Virginians, from urban apartment dwellers to rural homeowners.
