About

The Native Plant Society of Oregon is a statewide organization dedicated to the enjoyment, conservation, and study of Oregon's native plants and habitats for over 60 years. Founded in Portland in 1961, NPSO has grown into a network of 11 active chapters with more than 1,000 members working to protect Oregon's 3,600+ native plant species. The organization conducts citizen science initiatives, provides native plant gardening guidance, and advocates for the protection of threatened and endangered species across diverse ecosystems ranging from alpine lava fields to coastal sand dunes. Through local chapter meetings, guided field trips, workshops, and collaborative research projects like the iNaturalist Flora of Oregon initiative, NPSO engages plant enthusiasts and botanists in learning about and preserving Oregon's exceptional botanical diversity. With over 500 native plant species listed as threatened or endangered, NPSO's conservation work is crucial to maintaining the ecological health of Oregon's natural habitats and supporting the wildlife that depends on native vegetation.
